Caring for your lumiere gems jewellery
Moissanite jewellery is both durable and brilliant, but proper care ensures it retains its sparkle for years. Regular cleaning, along with proper storage and maintenance will help to ensure your jewellery stays in optimal condition for years of enjoyment.
To care for your moissanite jewellery, follow these tips:
Regular Cleaning
Use warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth or brush to clean the jewellery gently. Avoid abrasive cleaners. Definitely no toothpaste!
Ultrasonic cleaners can be used with most of our settings, however they are not to be used with any pieces containing sapphires, emeralds, pearls, opals or any other soft/fragile components. Gold plated pieces (vermeil and filled) are not recommended to be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner as it can damage the gold plating.
Avoid harsh chemicals
Keep your Lumiere jewellery away from chemicals such as bleach and chlorine which can damage the metal settings. Lumiere Gems recommends that jewellery is not worn whilst bathing, showering, swimming or cleaning.
Store Properly
Store your Lumiere Gems jewellery in the box that it came with or in a soft pouch, separate to other pieces o prevent scratches to the settings. The stones are almost as hard as diamonds, but the settings can be damaged by mishandling!
Professional Maintenance
Have your settings checked regularly by a jeweller to ensure your stones are safe and secure, and that your settings are free from damage. White Gold pieces require rhodium plating every 12 to 24 months, depending on wear, to ensure its brilliant white appearance.
Gold vermeil plating typically lasts 6 months to a few years before showing fading, depending on the frequency and type of use. High “rub” areas will show wear first. Gold filled jewellery can last 10-30 years with proper care and maintenance.
Looking after your Lumiere Gems jewellery appropriately will help ensure your jewellery retains its brilliant sparkle for years to come!
